Who’s ready to Sparkle? The Party Dress Edit

I have to confess that the two party dresses I bought this year were for my girls trip to Miami.  We were told to expect a couple of nights out at glitzy clubs, which left me in a bit of a panic as I don’t own many dresses that fit ‘glitzy night-club’ description in my wardrobe.  Most of my dresses apparently have too much material to qualify as ‘night-club’ outfits.

Luckily for me there were plenty of nice dresses that didn’t make me look ‘mutton dressed as lamb’ but fit the party bill.  My aim was to a) not spend a fortune b) cover my arms and show off my legs and c) buy dresses I’d be happy wearing again (panic buying is a thing!).

I opted for a sparkly dress from Primark £15 (although it’s now showing £20 online!) and a velvet dress from Topshop £45 (now £36).  Both sat above my knee in length but had full length sleeves so the overall look still felt quite elegant.

THE SPARKLY EDIT

First up are my sparkly favourites, my one word of caution here is to check your sequins. The price will reflect the quality of the sequins and whilst some sequin outfits look great and more expensive than they are, others can look tacky and cheap.

THE SPARKLY EDIT

For those of you that want to sparkle just a little there are so many gorgeous tops and bottoms that can be paired with simpler items already in your wardrobe.

THE VELVET EDIT

There is something about this material that just screams elegance. It also seems to make people want to stroke you (not sure this is a good thing or not?).  There are so many velvet pieces out there from dresses to jumpsuits that you are bound to find something that you love.  I’m also loving the two piece velvet suits (if a dress is not your thing) however I’ll touch on these in a separate blog post.

THE METALLIC KNIT EDIT

If you are not into velvet or sequins then take a look at Metallic knits.  They are easy to wear and work from day through to evening.

Whatever you decide to wear for the party season the key is to make sure that you feel comfortable and if you are buying something new make sure that a) you love it and b) you can re-wear it in the future.  Oh and most of all don’t forget to have fun!
