The SS18 Midi & Maxi Dress Edit

The SS18 Midi & Maxi Dress Edit

Hands up if you love sundress weather? I for one love dresses.  Easy to throw on and style up or down. I live in dresses whenever the weather permits and will layer up with a fine knit, denim jacket or blazer if need be. When Warehouse recently asked whether I’d like to write a blog post highlighting my favourite summer dresses I jumped at the chance (to be honest I was going to write a post on dresses anyway but this was like the icing on the cake).

If you follow me on Instagram you will have noticed that I love maxi and midi dresses.  Some may say that girls under a certain height should not wear a maxi-dress, I totally disagree.  I think you should wear whatever you fancy.  For me personally, the midi-dress is slightly better as it doesn’t require taking up but if I fall in love with a dress then midi or maxi, I make it work.

Whilst this post is in collaboration with Warehouse I have been given 100% autonomy in how I approach it and as such it includes my favourite dresses from other retailers.  I have also given (as always) my honest thoughts on the dresses I tried on.

STRIPES

I have to admit I don’t own any striped dresses, however having had a look at the Warehouse range I think I will be re-assessing this fact.  Also vertical stripes are known to make you look taller which is always a bonus.

This wide stripe midi dress £56.00 is easy to wear, feels great on and has a fabulous colour way. It would be perfect for work, special event or summer holiday. Great material that would pack well and not crease easy. Size up as Warehouse sizes seem to run small.
I’m an 8 and this is a 10.

This Striped Dress £56.00 is a lovely cotton/linen blend dress.  Material is quite thick. I wasn’t sure that I’d like this but felt it was perfect for work or even a special event.  Again size up as it fits small.  So again I’m wearing a size 10.

This is not really a stripy dress but quite frankly I had no where else to put it and felt you needed to see it. This colour block twist dress £59.00 is perfect for work or a special event. It is definitely one of those dresses you want to wear with heels and nice jewellery.  The material is quite thick and feels formal. I was not sure about it but once on I felt it looked great.  Easy to wear and easy to dress up.  With this style I ordered to size.

FLORALS

Now this is a print I am more familiar with and own several floral dresses.  It is a print that stands the test of time which means that you can wear for more than one summer.  My advise is to go for colours and patterns you love (not based on trends) and you will wear your dress for more than just one summer.

This midi shirt dress £45.00 is very easy to wear. I have a short body, so for me personally the neckline sat a little too low and I would have had to have had the straps taken up.  However those with normal body to legs ratio will be fine.  Again I sized up to 10 on this dress.  I loved the cold shoulder, floral print and the fact that you could dress this up and make it look glam for the evening or wear with flip-flops on the beach.

This silk dress £149 is one of my favourites from the Warehouse range.  It is 100% silk, feels amazing on and the print is beautiful.  It is one of those dresses you know you will wear for more than just one summer.

It does not come with a belt but I styled it with one and felt it worked. This is perfect for work and occasion wear.  I again sized up.  Highly recommend this dress.

BOHO CHIC

One of my favourite style of dresses to wear when I’m on holiday or in really hot weather is the boho chic dress. Casual but still beautiful. This Pom Pom Bardot dress £39.00 is beautiful and very very easy to wear and style. It is one you can throw on over your swimsuit or dress up with heels and wear out for dinner. The material is light, my only concern would be whether those pom poms would come out of the wash in one piece.  This style runs true to size.

ALL WHITE

I love all white despite the fact that I am notoriously messy!  It just screams summer and looks great on with a tan (which obvs works well for me!) I must admit that I don’t have many all-white dresses however the ones I have always get positive comments and feedback when I wear them.  I wasn’t 100% sure about this Cotton Midi Shirt Dress from Warehouse £42.00.  It is 100% cotton and felt stiff to wear.  It also creases easily.  As with all white dresses you have to wear a slip underneath to avoid your underwear being exposed for all to see. I think this dress would suit someone taller than me (not hard really) as the material just overwhelmed me.

There are so many dresses out there so these are just a few of my favourites.  For those of you that want to see more check out my Instagram feed as I will update styles I like on my insta stories as they become available.  I hope you enjoyed this post and that it was of some use.  As always thank you for reading and your support.

Much Love
