4 Key colours to bring your AW17 wardrobe up to date

According to Chillies and Cloves style guru Clare Watson, there are some key colours to look out for to pep up your Autumn/Winter wardrobe.  As you walk around the stores you will start seeing hints of AW17 collections popping up. The good news is that colour is going to be BIG next season. How you wear it will be totally up to you.

If you are not into trends but still want to inject an element of ‘fashion’ this will be prefect. You can add a belt, jumper, shoes or bracelets in the colour of your choice and pair with existing wardrobe essentials and winter colours such as black and grey.

The stores are focusing on colour for AW17 and as you go about your shopping trips (or if like me online shopping trips) you will start to see glimpses of these colours move from summer into the Autumn/Winter collection.

First up is Acid Yellow. Not a colour for everyone and I must admit not a colour that I think looks good on me however it can be toned down. A girlfriend of mine looks seriously cute in her bright yellow Zara blazer and I always wished I could pull it off (I’m not brave enough!).

I have instead, opted for ‘safe items’ such as belts, bracelets and my only yellow ‘brave’ item is a top from Zara that was in the sale – no doubt I will pair with black, grey or denim.

Metallic Button Yellow T-Shirt Zara

If you love colour and are brave there are many options out in this colour at the moment.  For those less brave try it out as an accessory that flash of acid yellow will bring your usual winter wardrobe up to date.

Another colour that Clare thinks is going to be big this AW17 is Purple. Not any old purple but a bright Emperor Purple. Now this is a colour I love but don’t really wear or own. I really think that this is a colour that would suit most people and teamed with plum colours could look amazing. There are a lot of plum colours out for AW17 so you will be sure to find a shade to suit.  I will be keeping my eyes peeled to see what I can add to my wardrobe that’s a shade of purple.

Zara Purple Jumper £5.99 (sale)

This colour has been big throughout summer and is set to continue into AW17. I have a couple of things in Orange so I am pleased that it is going to be a trend. I love this colour because it looks great with Khaki, Grey, Black or Denim. I’m thinking Orange jumper, with combat trousers or maybe with black jeans. It is a colour that will appear in many shades. The orange that suits me is deep dark orange. I am not good with the paler versions. So find your right shade and be brave. This colour will work for most and the less brave can choose accessories to jazz up the darks that feature heavily over winter.

Zara Orange Shoes

Finally we come to a colour that similar to Orange is set to move from summer into AW17. It’s a colour that does not suit me, or my skin tone but I do love it – Pastel Pink.

Think Pastel Pink and Black. I was convinced I had nothing in my wardrobe that was pastel pink but suddenly came across this gorgeous skirt from Topshop, which I plan to wear with a black jumper in the future. This counts right?

Zara Pink Satin Top £25.99

This colour will suit a lot of you fairer skin tones and no doubt you will already have items in your wardrobe that you can use over the coming season.

No matter how little or a lot you decide to adopt the colours for AW17 lets all try and be a little braver and break out of our usual comfort zones. Tricky in winter when the weather is cold, grey and wet but lets do this.

PS: I will post some of my top picks in the next couple of weeks as the AW17 season truly kicks in.
